A South African who wants to obtain the citizenship of another country has to apply to the Department of Home Affairs to retain his or her South African citizenship before acquiring that of the other country. Dual nationality or citizenship means that the person is regarded a citizen of both countries.’ – South African Government Services.

Many South Africans, who have at some point taken on another citizenship, have to their shock and dismay, learnt that their South African citizenship has been revoked. Due to a lack of understanding why this has happened, it has caused a great deal of anxiety and confusion for many South Africans.

I am Rhodesian born, emigrated to South Africa, became a South African citizen and raised my family there, living and working in Johannesburg for 35 years. My wife and I emigrated to the U.S.A., in response to a calling from God, on 31st October 2009 and now live in Spartanburg South Carolina.

My own and my wife's background and experience are as follows.

Judge (Magistrate) (2) *Administration Manager, (3) *Assistant Company Secretary,(handling 6 Public, Stock Exchange listed companies), (4) Assistant Marketing Manager, (5)*Leasing Executive, (6) Property Consultant, (7) General Manager,(8) *Legal Adviser, (incorporating a very wide range of legal work/advice,including mercantile and insurance law, staturory compliance, financial and investment advice, tax, labor law,contracts, (principal contracts lawyer/draftsman) trademarks and intellectual property, health and safety, constitutional law,litigation.)

* I worked for Anglo Transvaal Consolidated Investment Company Ltd., Anglo American Property Services (Pty) Ltd.,Liberty Properties (Pty) Ltd. Liberty Life Association of Africa Ltd., Liberty Group Ltd., in the capacities asterisked above.

I was also self employed for a time as a Business Management Consultant, assisting small and medium sized businesses to align their trading and administrative practices to the existing laws and to best business practices, to the improvement of efficiency, effectiveness and profitability.

I presently am unemployed, am seeking suitable employment for myself, not necessarily in as senior position as any of the above but preferably in a clerical/administrative capacity where a considerable part of my experience lies, rather than in physical labour, although I have no objection to that as such. I just consider that I have more to offer and can add more value in the admistrative and clerical spheres of operation.

My wife Valerie Jeannette Carpenter, is presently employed cooking chicken for "Zaxby's" a fast food operation. She is a lifetime experienced and accomplished, high school teacher in science and mathematics, having successfully taught over a number of years the previously disadvantaged sections of the community in South Africa, in one year of intensive instruction, raising their matriculation symbols from C and D sometimes even E, to A and B so that many students obtained university entrance and study bursaries through her efforts and are now holders of engineering degrees.

Although a teaching position would be her obvious first choice, my wife was head of Science Department for many years and is a really hard worker and a brilliant organiser. She would be happy to accept a clerical or administrative position especially if it involved child or young people care or caring for the needy or underpriveleged.

The corporation I work for announced this week that they will be consolidating our division into other facilities within the group. They offered me options but Sally and I would like to stay here in the Carolinas and we're now looking for employment opportunities. There may be somebody in the SA Club with recruiter contacts or even knowledge of vacancies in the greater Greenville/Spartanburg area and I request that you forward this communication accordingly.
I am currently employed as Director of Operations for the Carolinas Division of Watts Water Technologies with overall responsibilities for 450 headcount in four campuses and revenues of $170 million.
Sally is a seasoned IT Project Manager and has been responsible for the software roll-out to the European Divisions of Avery Dennison over the last three years. She was responsible for all Vendor Management as well as project planning/execution.

Cargo of Dreams

Hello fellow South Africans,

As I have mention before on the blog we are helping with Cargo of Dreams. It is a non profit organization transforming a 40 feet cargo container in to a class room for a school in South Africa.

The current project will be merged with the container that was done by Furman in 08 and also another container that was recently bought by the SA partners. Together the three containers will form a building hosting 80-110 preschool students. (see attachments for building drawings)

Greenville First (bank group), Upstate CREIA (realtor’s group) and couple other business have officially partner with the project to see it’s completion by the end of March.

With most of the construction items and work committed too we are now shifting our focus to the supplies and equipment. This is where I trust the SA’s can step in and help in a big way.

What is needed:
1.Any item that you think is appropriate for a preschool can be send(no clothing, food or medicine please – customs regulations)
2.Used toys and equipment etc, can be shipped. However, ONLY if that is in very good condition.
3.The upstate SA’s have decided to make the following our priority items; Tables and chairs, Blankets and kitchen supplies. (will e-mail out the list with upcoming e-mail)

Note: The entire project (school) is accomplished through generous donations of constructional and non constructional items. Donors also make a cash contribution with their items that allows the school to be shipped.
How much cash should I give with items? It is impossible to prescribe a formula and therefore there are no fix amounts – many people do a 70/30 contribution (value of donation vs shipping) and others only give towards shipping. $20, $50 and $100 contributions are very common with items needed.

Thank you to everyone that attended the Christmas Party this year. I think we had a great amount of people and Marlon Niemand from Atlanta Bread Company did an amazing job on the prime rib dinner. There was a wonderful balloon twister that surely had the kids attention at all time.

We will keep you posted about the Spring Braai as soon as we decided on a date.
There will be no gathering at Atlanta Bread Co for the month of December so end of January we will see you all again.

Liewe vriende,

In gesprekke wat ek gehad het met mense wat die vorige braai bygewoon het, het dit geblyk dat daar belangstelling is in Afrikaanse bybelstudie.

Daar is selfs ook die behoefte uitgespreek om 'n Afrikaanse kerk te plant hier in Greenville. Ek bied hiermee aan om so 'n bybelstudie aan te bied, met die vooruitsig van toekomstige woordverkondiging op Afrikaans hier in Greenville.

Voorstelle vir 'n spesifieke tyd en plek sal waardeer word, alhoewel ek Saterdag oggende of Donderdag aande sal verkies.
